Comments on Fidera Flow - Evaluation pitch

Problem or need - Were brought not so well as there was too little information on that - grade 2.

Potential customer/market area - I kind of didn't grasp who it were - grade 1.

Solution/benefit for the customer - The company already had solutions they only needed people to do them and the speaker told that their group had people who would implement the solutions - grade 3.

Oral presentation - The speaker spoke well but as said in the above there was too little information on everything - grade 2.

1.12 Researching file management techniques

Our project is done with Unity and previous programmers have made lot of decisions that make it harder to manage Unity files. Entire project is in single Unity scene and we had to find a way to manage the scene easily. We are using Git for version control but the problem is that Unity files are binary and don't work well with git so merging scenes is not working very well. After research and testing different solutions we decided to split scene to different prefabs that can be edited without changing the scene. We also will have merging session on Tuesdays where we merge all the files that require merging.

We also showed our progress to tutor but unfortunately most of the group was not present so we were not able to show all the changes.

Sprint planning 24.11

We played the game and found things that weren't working as expected. We discussed how we wanted to change or fix the problems that we found. Most were very minor but there also was some things that required a lot of work. We decided to include those things to future sprint and focus to the easy and important fixes first. We listed the things in Excel sheet and assigned tasks to all group members. Our sprint will be 2 weeks long and we will plan next sprint at 8.11

PO meeting 21.11

We had PO meeting Tuesday 21.11 at 12.00.

In the meeting we discussed what was expected from us. We are mostly gonna fix bugs and art and extend the current features in the game. We had clear idea what game is suppose to feel like since we already had discussed with the tutor about the game. We looked some of the art assets and asked POs opinion about them and she approved the art. We also told what we had already done and what will we do next. PO approved our current plans and we scheduled next meeting to be held at 12.12 12.00.

Finding other groups post

Goal was to find interesting post from some other group and report the findings to blog. We chose Meyer project where they researched about waste and management. Project was very open when it was introduced and it seems that they might try to find solutions to waste problems and that way improve the passenger experience. Some values from post were surprising and we are interested to see what solution they will come up with.

Introduction, Frans Auranen

Hey,

I am Frans, a 24 year old TUAS -student from Salo. I've been studying game develepoment and for my Capstone project I sought an intresting project that would allow me to gain game development skills and experiences, ExMan 3D being the project that seemed the most approriate. I have been playing and enjoying video games for my whole life and actually being part of the creative process to make the things that I enjoy has beem the main motivator for me. I hope we will have a great time during this project and that I'll learn new things about game development along with teamworking experiences.

Speech:

Hi, we are the group creating the Exman game. Exman is a game about food service industry and the goal is to teach the player about company management. Game is aimed at training institutions. The main point of the game is that you are a manager that manages company and your goal is to make decisions that help the company to do better. Game teaches the player about resource management and how to solve different problems in working life. Dialogs and decisions made in them are the main focus of the game. In training institutions it's hard to practice problematic situations and our aim is to solve this problem. Game is gonna be realistic but is also gonna inform player about the mistakes so the player can learn from them. The game is currently focused to food service industry but in the future the concept could be expanded to other industries.

ExMan3D - Summary

ExMan is a business simulation game, which aims at teaching the fundamental management principles to entrepreneurs or learners of management. The game is currently developed as a food service management simulator, but in general, is designed to be context-free from the beginning to be able to expand the game into other areas of studies. The game is designed to be single-player, which will include interactive AI agents in a combination of 3D and 2D game mechanics.

Key Features

General Features

  • 3D game world
  • Serious Game tied to the coursework done in the Nutrition course
  • Recorded Dialogue to give a more authentic feel
  • Contextual experience for players with some background in the food services industry

Gameplay

  •  Isometric game view to allow player to see not only their character, but also how it interacts with the world.
  • Mouse control to allow users to interact with the game with minimal movement (for use in classroom situation).
  • Movement through the game world, with Dialogue based interactions to track knowledge gained from course.

Locations

  • Office: when notifications are triggered, the desk is where the player needs to travel to in order to loop at their laptop or answer the phone for example. This is the “start” section for whatever the event is that is in progress.
  • Front door: Exiting the front door will allow the player to exit for the day and move the in game clock a day forward.

Introduction Sanna Kulesova

Hello, my name is Sanna and I'm 23 years old. I study at Turku University of Applied Sciences Game technology third year. I'm a graphic designer and have some experience in 3D modeling using Blender. I hope while working on this project I will learn more about 3D modeling and maybe also on 3D animation as that is a whole new thing for me.

Intro

Hello, I am Gaurav Bikram Thapa, a 20 years old student studying in Turku University of Applied Sciences. I am into networking. I have basic knowledge  of C++ and Java. Also i have in depth understanding of CCNA routing and switching. Right now i am working on a project to build a website for a company. I chose this project this year to learn about 3D modeling. Since i have always been interested in arts and animation, i wanted to learn more about 3D animation and modeling. I hope by the end of this course i will learn more about 3D modeling.

Introduction - Jussi Inkeroinen

Hey, I'm Jussi, a 22 year old student at TUAS. I have strong programming skills, front-end and back-end, with experience in working with various frameworks and tools. I can also do some UI design. I'm interested in both game development and app development. I like to do self-study on these topics, and I sometimes do my own projects outside of school studies. I have some experience developing apps for various operating systems and devices. I also experimented with 3D modeling and Unity 3D before. My weakness is that I sometimes lack confidence. My strength is that I'm very active in projects, if I am confident and interested in it. I'm looking forward to learn more about teamwork in game development and I hope I'll end up being useful for the team!

Introduction - Tuovi Eskelinen

My name is Tuovi, a 21-year-old student with network security as the main study field. I'm part of the art team in this project. I saw this project as possibility to learn how to do 3D modelling and computer graphics. Drawing has always been close to my heart and on later age character design as well. By playing all sorts of games I've seen characters of lots of different kind of and consider it one of my strengths. I've got no previous experience in 3D modelling but the topic has always been fascinating to me so I'm more than eager to learn every sort of trick there is about 3D animation and modelling. That might be my weakness but at the same time my strength. I'm eagerly looking forward on working with the team and the project owner as this is a wonderful chance to gain work experience on real working life projects.

You'll hear more from me when our team has some of the art ready to be shown publically.
Bye for now, yours Tuovi.

Introduction - Sampsa Kaskela

My name is Sampsa Kaskela. I'm a 24 year old software developer with 4 years of development experience. I mainly focus on games and web development. I have strong programming skills and my main languages are C# and JavaScript. I'm currently working as a Front-End Web Developer in a software company. Previously, I have done a lot of UI development and created core mechanics for the games. Most notable is AI for a RTS game. I prefer to split big problem to many small problems. This allows me to design systems that have many small entities that interact with each other and are easy to maintain. I expect to learn more about game development and game design during this project and I try to improve my design and problem solving skills.

Vladimir. Introduction.

Hi, my name is Vladimir Sakharov and this is a little something about me. I'm a 21 year old guy studying Game Development and most of the things I'm interested in revolve around games and movies! For the past year or so I've spent plenty of time working on different projects at the Turku Game Lab, and that taught me that my biggest strength is getting things done, while my greatest weakness is polishing those same things to make them 100% presentable. I'm really looking forward to working on this project and hope it will help me improve my game development skills and teaches me a lot about making things not just work, but work properly!

Who we are

We are the members of the project Exman3D. Today we got to meet each other and get familiar with project, the premises and the workflow expected from us in the duration of this project. After that, we got to our first task of the project, which would be creating an Optima page and a blog(it's the one you're reading right now!) for this team.

ExMan-3D is a sims-like game aimed at service industry professionals,  where you play the role of the office manager taking care of a restaurant, so most of us chose it due to our interest in creating art in general and video-games specifically!
